Leicester Tigers head coach Aaron Mauger has apologised to the club's supporters for Saturday's humiliating defeat to Glasgow Warriors.
The Tigers lost 43-0 at Welford Road as Glasgow ran in six tries to secure qualification for the Champions Cup quarter-finals, where they will take on Saracens.
It was the heaviest margin of defeat at home in the Tigers' 137-year history and Mauger admits he is at a loss as to why his team performed so poorly.
Mauger told the Leicester Mercury: "It is really painful and we apologise to our people, the Tigers Family. The guys are hurting because they care a lot. People will question their attitude and those things but I don't think you can. They have tried to give their best but we are clearly not good enough at the moment and to go down 43-0 at home is pretty painful.
"It's a tough one to explain. It wasn't a lack of desire or effort from our boys, we just didn't execute things well enough tonight.
"Glasgow were very good and we can't take anything away from them. They executed their game plan very well and we just didn't have the answers. We knew the start would be big but they controlled it very well and we just didn't recover.
"They played well for the rest of the game. We had opportunities to get back into the game and swing momentum but just weren't good enough, whether it was with our line-out detail or our strike detail or defensive lapses under fatigue. We just weren't good enough."
