Sale Sharks have signed USA fly-half AJ MacGinty from Connacht to replace Wasps-bound Danny Cipriani.

MacGinty, 26, was one of America's stand-out players at the World Cup last year, scoring 25 points, and has been in superb form for Connacht as they challenge for the PRO12 title.

He will arrive at Sale at the end of the season, with the Sharks' current No 1 fly-half Cipriani returning to his first club Wasps this summer.

Sale boss Steve Diamond said: "We were alerted to AJ during the World Cup and we have been watching his performances at Connacht.

"He is by far the best fly-half in the PRO12; great in defence and has an 80 percent success rate kicking his points.

"I am sure that when he works with Paul Deacon here at Sharks he will become the finished article. He will be great addition to the squad and we are looking forward to AJ joining us pre-season."
