Michael Cheika is unimpressed with Steve Hansen's claims that Eddie Jones bullied Australia's head coach during England's historic series win

Michael Cheika has rubbished "shallow" suggestions his failure to stand up to Eddie Jones is behind England's historic success in Australia.

Cheika takes his side to Sydney for Saturday's final Test as the first Wallabies coach to preside over a home series defeat to the English.

And New Zealand's World Cup-winning coach Steve Hansen this week said Cheika set the tone for his players by refusing to engage old team-mate Jones in a verbal battle on the eve of the series.

But Hansen's claim that Cheika has "actually allowed Eddie to bully him" has not gone down well with the Aussie, who said: "I think that's a pretty shallow sort of view on what's really involved in coaching and he knows better than that.

"It's easy to kick blokes when they're down. We're down, but we'll be getting back up, don't worry about that.

"I think in the past Australia's been guilty of talking itself up when it hasn't deserved it. The one thing this team has is a lot of humility when we win and when we lose.

"If they're not big on the way I've taken on the media campaign that's their problem. I've done what I think is best for the team and I still believe it's best for the team.
