New Zealand prop Joe Moody has been issued with an official warning for a head-high tackle on Argentina's Guido Petti during Saturday's Rugby Championship game in Hamilton.

Moody was penalised for the tackle shortly before half-time in the Test, which the All Blacks won 57-22, but South African referee Craig Joubert ruled no other action was required.

In a statement on Sunday, the game citing commissioner said Moody had since received an official warning for a dangerous tackle.

A citing commissioner can issue a warning for "foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the red card threshold for citings," the statement said.

The All Blacks could claim the Rugby Championship crown with two games to spare if they register a bonus-point victory over South Africa in Christchurch next weekend.

However, they will be without flanker Sam Cane after he suffered a hamstring injury during the win over the Pumas which will sideline him for four to six weeks.

Cane's injury is likely to give a chance to Hurricanes flanker Ardie Savea, the younger brother of wing Julian Savea, against the Springboks.

Savea is rapidly gaining cult status in New Zealand with his immense pace and power, but coach Steve Hansen is keen to downplay expectations.

"It's a big step up from Super Rugby to the more physical demands of international rugby," Hansen said after also calling Crusaders flanker Matt Todd into his squad.

"Everyone is happy with the progress but we know there's things he can still do better.

"It's the pace of the game. He's a really explosive athlete so is he ready to play 80 minutes? We're not sure yet at that level but we'll get a good 60 out of him and we know Matty can play for as long as we need him."
