South Africa full-back Willie le Roux has been banned for one game for the yellow card he received on Saturday against Ireland.

Le Roux collided with Ireland's No 15 Tiernan O'Halloran early in the game, sparking some criticism that he had not been sent off, although that was played down by coach Joe Schmidt after the game.

O'Halloran landed heavily on his neck and back and, although he played on, he was eventually withdrawn from the game at half-time.

His suspension will be served in Super Rugby and Le Roux will miss the Sharks' pivotal home game against the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Le Roux's side trail the Lions by seven points in the Africa 2 section with three rounds remaining, and must win to have a realistic chance of topping the final standings.

He was cited after the game by commissioner James Absaloms of Kenya and Terry Willis of Australia chaired the disciplinary hearing, which deemed the offence had been worthy of a red card.
