Edinburgh, Cheetahs and Glasgow all recorded wins in the Guinness PRO14 on Friday night.

Connacht 22-29 Edinburgh

Dougie Fife scored the fastest try in Guinness PRO14 history as Edinburgh extended their winning streak with a 29-22 defeat of Connacht at the Sportsground.

The Scots enjoyed a dream start with Fife scoring after just 10 seconds via a charge-down, eclipsing the league's previous quickest try by Nathan Brew for the Dragons, 18 seconds into a game against Cardiff in December 2005.

Connacht fought back to lead 17-13 at half-time, with Tiernan O'Halloran and Tom Farrell both scoring their fifth tries of the campaign.

But despite a further score from prop Finlay Bealham, wily replacement Duncan Weir inspired a late win for Edinburgh with 16 points - including another try from a blocked kick.

The Cheetahs moved a step closer to a place in the play-offs thanks to a 29-17 victory against the Dragons.

The South African side triumphed at Rodney Parade thanks to a brace from winger Sibahle Maxwane, with fly-half Fred Zeilinga and full-back Clayton Blommetjies also going over.

Victory extended their advantage over fourth-placed Cardiff Blues to 10 points in Conference A, and closed the gap to second-placed Munster to two.

The Dragons were unable to add to their meagre total of two league wins, despite scores by wing Ashton Hewitt and hooker Elliot Dee.

DTH van der Merwe scored twice on his return to Scotstoun as Glasgow thrashed hapless Zebre 68-7.

It was a completely one-sided contest as the Warriors ran in 10 tries - including six in the first half - to take a 16-point lead at the top of Conference A and virtually guarantee a home semi-final.

It was Van der Merwe who was the star on his return to Glasgow. The winger re-signed for the Warriors last week following a three-year absence and was not slow to make an impact.

The fan favourite scored twice, while Adam Hastings was irrepressible at fly-half and Ruaridh Jackson also grabbed a brace in a thumping win.
