Rhys Patchell scored 17 points in Cardiff Blues' Challenge Cup win over Montpellier last weekend

Fly-half Rhys Patchell will end a five-year stay with Cardiff Blues at the end of the season to join the Scarlets.

Patchell came through the ranks with the Blues, his local club, and had a debut to remember when named man-of-the-match in their PRO12 clash with the Newport Gwent Dragons.

He earned a Wales debut at the age of 20, making his debut on the tour of Japan, and he has scored 11 tries for Cardiff in a haul of 517 points.

Patchell scored 17 points in their Challenge Cup win over Montpellier last weekend and Scarlets general manager Jon Daniels is pleased to have him on board next season, joining fellow new signing Jonathan Davies.

Daniels told the region's website: "As we have stated previously, we are always interested in quality players who can add something to our squad and Rhys certainly fits that bill.

"He has the ability to make things happen on the field and we are delighted he will be joining us next season. He has taken great care to make the right decision for himself based on his very clear ambition to play outside half for Wales.

"He is still a young man with areas of his game requiring further development but under the tutelage of Stephen Jones we are hopeful Rhys can become the latest in a long line of Scarlets outside halves to wear the number 10 jersey of Wales."
