Wales captain Sam Warburton has been ruled out for at least four weeks after suffering an ankle injury in Cardiff's defeat to Ospreys on Saturday.

The Blues flanker was hurt in a tackle by international team-mate and fellow No 7 Justin Tipuric in the 13-6 loss and required treatment on the pitch.

Warburton tried to play on but had to be replaced before half-time and is now likely to miss Guinness PRO12 matches with Connacht, Newport Gwent Dragons and Scarlets, and back-to-back European Challenge Cup fixtures against Montpellier.

"Sam has suffered a grade two strain to his right ankle and has now seen the specialist to start his recovery process," Blues head of medical services John Miles told his club's official website.

"He will return to the specialist in a week's time for further assessment and currently we are working at a minimum lay-off of four weeks for a return to play."

The British and Irish Lion will hope to return in plenty of time for Wales' opening Six Nations match against Ireland in Dublin on February 7.
