Ospreys have sacked head coach Steve Tandy, less than 48 hours after being knocked out of the European Rugby Champions Cup
Tandy, who took charge of the Welsh region in 2012, has paid the price for just two wins in European competition and domestic form that has seen them slide to second bottom in Conference A of the Guinness PRO14.
Managing director Andrew Millward said in a statement that results had forced them to make a change to the coaching set-up.
"Steve has been an outstanding servant to Ospreys Rugby - often in challenging circumstances," said Millward. "His dedication to the region and his hard work has been absolute.
"However, we're aware that results have not been good enough this season and that, regrettably, a change is necessary to keep the organisation moving forward - consistent with the long-term expectations of our loyal and valued supporters and commercial partners."
Ospreys were knocked out of the Champions Cup after losing 24-7 to Clermont, a game that saw Wales fly-half Dan Biggar helped off six minutes from the end with his arm in a sling.
Tandy's replacement will have to cope with other injury problems including flanker Dan Lydiate who has been ruled out for the rest of the season following a bicep injury. Millward hinted the new coach may not be announced until the summer.
"While our long-term focus is now on finding a world-class replacement and continue building a squad for next season, we have a busy end of season PRO14 run-in for the coaches and players to focus on," he added.
