Exeter Chiefs are awaiting a fitness update on Jack Nowell after the England wing twisted his knee during the 19-10 victory over Gloucester at Sandy Park on Saturday.

Nowell was forced off in the closing stages of the Aviva Premiership match and his injury will be assessed over the coming days.

Chiefs backs coach Ali Hepher said: "It's a bit of a twist of his knee. Unfortunately he has got twisted between two bodies and had to come off so we will wait and see.

"You don't know with these knee injuries and sometimes the least painful ones can be the longest out. So we will obviously get him assessed in the week."

New England coach Eddie Jones is set to unveil his first selection on Wednesday when he names England's elite player squad ahead of the Six Nations and Nowell is expected to be included.

However, his injury will be a concern to Jones as will the concussion suffered by lock George Kruis during Saracens' 29-23 defeat to Harlequins.

Hooker Dylan Hartley missed Northampton's 30-27 defeat at Leicester with a rib problem, but Saints boss Jim Mallinder was quick to play down the extent of the problem.

Better news for Jones was the return to action of Manu Tuilagi in that game at Welford Road, the centre playing for the first time since suffering a serious groin injury in October 2014 when he came on as a replacement in the 51st minute.
