Worcestershire have appointed former Yorkshire batsman Kevin Sharp as their new head coach.

The 58-year-old was second-team batting coach at New Road for the last four years and replaces Steve Rhodes, who was sacked in December.

Rhodes' departure came following an internal investigation after reportedly delaying telling the county about the arrest of all-rounder Alex Hepburn, who was charged with two counts of rape in November.

Sharp's appointment sees former Worcestershire paceman Alan Richardson join his staff as bowling coach - a post he held at Warwickshire - replacing Matt Mason who is now responsible for the club's second team.

Former Yorkshire coach Sharp helped develop current England players Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Gary Ballance in his time at Headingley.

He was also part of the England coaching set-up in England's 340-run second Test defeat by South Africa at Trent Bridge last summer.
