Laura Trott has backed Great Britain’s sprinters to rediscover their best form in time for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Britain topped the medals table at last weekend's European Track Championships in Switzerland with six golds and three bronzes, but all nine were won by endurance riders.

The best result achieved by the sprinters was Katy Marchant's fourth place in the 500m time trial as their recent struggles continued.

Trott, however, is confident their hard work in training will ultimately pay off.

She told Sky Sports News HQ: "We can see what is going on behind the scenes and I believe they will come good. For us [endurance riders], the Europeans are not easier but our main competitors are Australia, New Zealand and countries outside of Europe, whereas for the sprinters, their main competitors are countries like France and Germany.

"The Europeans for them is made a little bit harder for having the top nations there. Maybe that can reflect on their results a little bit."

While the sprinters toiled in Switzerland, Trott began her 2015/16 season with gold medals in the team pursuit, omnium and scratch race.

She added: "I had an incredible time out there. My main events were the team pursuit and the omnium, which are the two Olympic events and the two that I want to try to win gold in again in Rio, so two come away with the two gold medals in those events was incredible.

"To come away with the scratch race as well in the middle of the week was a bonus and something that I really enjoyed taking part in."
