Exits for both seeds in action on Tuesday

Agnes Szavay, a finalist in the Open Gaz de France on Sunday, has been knocked out in the first round of the Diamond Games in Antwerp by Russian qualifier Alisa Kleybanova. Szavay, the sixth seed from Hungary, reached a career-high ranking of 18th on Monday. However, she was unable to carry that momentum into Belgium, losing 6-2 6-3 to her 106th-ranked opponent. There was a second upset on Tuesday when number eight seed Alona Bondarenko of the Ukraine lost 4-6 6-3 6-4 to Julie Ditty. Ditty offered a resilient performance to record her first win against a top-50 player - the American saving all five of the break points she faced in the deciding set. Karin Knapp was the first player through to the quarter-finals, the Italian coming from one set and 3-1 down to beat Yaroslava Shvedova of Russia 3-6 6-4 6-2. Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden dominated Meilen Tu of the United States to win 6-1 6-2 and set up a second-round match against second seed Anna Chakvetadze of Russia, who beat Szavay to take the Open Gaz de France title. Meanwhile, Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova beat Luxembourg's Anne Kremer 6-1 6-1 to set up an encounter with world number one Justine Henin, who will play in her first WTA tournament on home soil in five years on Thursday. More than 13,000 fans have bought a ticket for the occasion. "It will be a present to my fans. They have always supported me," Henin said. Ai Sugiyama of Japan and Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia also won their first-round matches.
