Fourth seed Guillermo Canas has reached the semi-finals of the Las Vegas Open after beating American qualifier Amer Delic.
Argentinian only seed in last four
Fourth seed Guillermo Canas has reached the semi-finals of the Las Vegas Open after beating American qualifier Amer Delic in straight sets, 6-4 6-4.
Bidding for his eighth ATP Tour title and playing only his second event of the year after suffering a wrist injury, the 30-year-old Argentine broke his opponent's serve once in each set to win in one hour and 20 minutes.
Canas, the only seed left in the tournament, will now meet Sam Querrey after the unseeded American beat France's Julien Benneteau 7-5 6-2
"It's not normal for only one seed to make the quarter-finals but it's tough to play in the ATP," Canas said. "In the ATP, anyone can beat anyone."
Robby Ginepri also reached the last four - for the third time this year - the American wildcard sweeping past Latvia's Ernests Gulbis 6-1 6-2 in less than an hour.
South African qualifier stars
Ginepri will now face South African qualifier Kevin Anderson, who has made his first ATP semi-final in only his second event after thrashing Yevgeny Korolev of Russia 6-2 6-0.
Of his meeting with the 6ft 7in Anderson, Ginepri said: "I'm going to do a lot of running probably but I'm used to that. He will probably serve and volley a little bit but I've played a couple of guys in the last two weeks with that game.
"I think Kevin in tight situations can get a little tight hopefully and I'll stay focused with my game."
Anderson, who beat Korolev in just 55 minutes, added: "I was just going for my shots and saw the ball really well."
The 21-year-old won his first ATP match by beating sixth-seeded Michael Llodra of France 6-2 7-6 in Monday's opening round.
Korolev had gone through by knocking out top-seeded Chilean Fernando Gonzalez 6-3 7-6 on Thursday.
