Defeated Wimbledon finalist looks to recapture US Open

Andy Roddick admits he is still bearing the scars of his Wimbledon defeat to Roger Federer but insists he will be ready for the US Open. The fifth-ranked American lost a marathon final 5-7, 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 16-14 to the world number one last month and says it is still painful to have come so close. But, as he gears up for his return in the ATP Washington Classic on Wednesday, he is trying to focus on the positives and believes he will be in the right mental state at the US Open later in August. "Heartbreaking for me, but at the same time not a lot of people get a chance to play for that title. That was not lost on me," he said. "Was it the greatest loss I've had as far as afterward? Yeah, that hurt but, at the same time, it's still a pretty good existence to play matches like that." He added: "It does help my confidence going into the US Open that I was able to navigate my way through a major tournament." Roddick's only Grand Slam title to date is the 2003 US Open.
