Luke Campbell's American debut ended as expected - in impressive style.
The lightweight finished Steve Trumble in the second round with a vicious body shot in the sunshine at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, his bout starting the countdown to Kell Brook's world title challenge.
Campbell is expected to follow suit and challenge for world titles down the line, but for now he crossed the pond for the first time as a professional and took just two of the scheduled four rounds to win and improve his record to 7-0.
The finish itself was the highlight of a short but scrappy affair – it came halfway through the second round when a right drew Trumble’s attention and the left-hook rattled into his ribs leaving the referee no choice but to call it off.
Campbell had already floored the American earlier in the round, a right hook doing the damage and, not for the first time, taking away what limited balance Trumble had.
He did make the opening round awkward and the visitor will have enjoyed the chance to get his jab going from the off, also using his trademark left to try and impose himself as early as possible.
The victory might well have been too early for any Californian or even British fight fans to be in the outdoor arena but, with his friends and family there and the finish well worth seeing, America is sure to see more of Campbell.
