Mayweather v Pacquiao: Jamie Moore and Spencer Oliver rate the fighters out of 10

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao's fight in Las Vegas on Saturday is one of the most evenly matched bouts in recent boxing history.

To help you make your prediction, we invited Jamie Moore and Spencer Oliver into the Sky Sports News HQ studio to rate each boxer out of 10 on their attack, punching power, defence, speed, stamina and tactics.

Here was the outcome…

Attack

Moore on Mayweather: “I would say a seven. Although he is good offensively, the main part of his game is defence. He has got such a good defence. He allows people to walk on to him and uses counter-shots. His attacking game isn’t at the forefront of his game.”

Oliver on Pacquiao: “I have got to give him an eight. He has got fast hands, fast feet and he loves aggression. The downfall for Pacquiao is that he can get a bit reckless and can get caught, but I don’t see him doing that in this contest.”

Punching power

Moore on Mayweather: “Again, it’s not his greatest asset. He punches hard enough to gain people’s respect and stop them in their tracks, but I would probably have to give him a seven again. He hasn’t stopped anyone in a long time.”

Oliver on Pacquiao: “You have to go back to 2009, when he boxed Miguel Cotto, for the last time he got a stoppage. But that really doesn’t tell the story of Pacquiao. He is so accurate and that left cross straight through the middle really is a dangerous shot. Out of 10, I’m going to give him an eight.”

Defence

Moore on Mayweather: “You would have to give him a 10. His greatest asset is his defence. His whole style is based around his defence and he is so hard to nullify. You can get the odd shots off here and there but, overall, in a 12-round fight he is so difficult to nail cleanly.”

Oliver on Pacquiao: “Defence is probably the weakest part of his game. His defence really is attack but he does make fundamental mistakes and he does get caught. I would give him a nine just on the fact that his defence is attack.”

Stamina

Moore on Mayweather: “Again, I would have to give him a 10 for that. He is renowned for the amount of work he puts in in the gym and you watch any 12-rounder of Floyd Mayweather’s, he finishes the 12th round like he starts the first. He is so well conditioned. His speed and stamina are combined together. He is one of the best-conditioned athletes in the world so you would have to give him a 10.”

Oliver on Pacquiao: “I would give him a 10 as well. You have got two of the greatest boxers on the planet at the moment and their conditioning is unbelievable. Pacquiao goes as fast in the 12th round as he does in the first. He starts really fast, dies off a little bit in the middle round and then picks up towards the end.”

Tactics

Moore on Mayweather: “I would have to give him a 10. Floyd Mayweather is the sort of fighter who doesn’t really need a trainer. He has got that much boxing ability and that much knowledge that he breaks things down in his own mind. When he is posed problems in fights, you can see him working somebody out and, slowly but surely, he always finds that way to win.”

Oliver on Pacquiao: “Pacquiao’s tactical ability is a form of attack. He does it with his feet, he does it with his hands, he throws combination punches, he is very quick. But he is not a 10; he is a nine.”

RESULT: 44-44

The verdict: Who will win?

Moore: “I have been changing my mind ever since the fight got made. It is one of those fights that is so close, that is why it is the biggest fight in history. Mayweather finds a way to win. Every time he has been put into a situation where he has been given big problems, he has always overcome it and found a way to win.”

Oliver: “I think Pacquiao will win. His style is all wrong for Mayweather. He has got that southpaw style - we have seen Zab Judah give him a lot of problems, DeMarcus Corley give him a lot of problems with that southpaw style – and speed. He has got fast hands, fast feet, and I think that will be a massive factor in the fight."
