Ben Stokes took two wickets in five balls as England turned the tide as Windies were reduced to 132-3 at tea on day one of the first Test in Barbados.

SCORECARD | AS IT HAPPENED

Kraigg Brathwaite (40) and Shai Hope (42no), the Windies heroes at Headingley in 2017, shared a 73-run partnership before Stokes provided a crucial breakthrough for the visitors, taking the edge of the former's bat.

It brought Darren Bravo to the crease for his first Test innings since November 2016 but England's talisman trapped the 29-year-old plumb in front for just two in his next over.

Hope remained resolute and reached the interval unbeaten on 42 before a burst of rain saw an early tea taken.

Moeen Ali earlier claimed the first wicket of the day midway through the morning session, when he trapped Windies debutant John Campbell (44) lbw, on a pitch that lacked pace and justified Jason Holder's decision to bat first.

Perhaps the biggest news of the morning came at the toss when Joe Root confirmed England's decision to leave out Stuart Broad and go in with two spinners - Ali and Adil Rashid, who got the nod over Jack Leach.
