Athers on James Vince, Brisbane's slow pitch and Lyon's great run out

"I felt like thousands of people in England who were probably rushing under the duvet at that point!"
So says Michael Atherton when recalling Alastair Cook's dismissal for two in the third over of the opening Ashes Test in Brisbane on Thursday. WATCH ATHERS' DAY ONE REVIEW ABOVE.
Cook's exit - the left-hander snicking Mitchell Starc behind - did not prove terminal for England with James Vince (83) and Mark Stoneman (53) putting on 125 for the second wicket.
Nathan Lyon ended Vince's hopes of a maiden Test ton when he ran the Hampshire batsman out from cover with a superb one-handed pick up and throw.
Still, England did not wilt and ended proceedings in Brisbane - a venue where they have not won a Test since 1986/87 - on 196-4, Dawid Malan (28no) and Moeen Ali (13no) at the crease.
Watch Athers' analysis in the video at the top of the page as he explains how Vince played "beautifully" and proved Trevor Bayliss correct for pushing to have him on tour.
The former England captain also suggests that Lyon's run out of Vince could be pivotal in the game, reveals what first-innings score Joe Root's side will likely be hunting, and remarks on the slowness of the Gabba deck.
