England will have a sniff of victory in the second Test if they can pick up early wickets on day four in Adelaide, says Michael Atherton.

Australia, who lost Smith, Warner, Cameron Bancroft and Usman Khawaja under lights, increased their lead to 268 having skittled England for 227 earlier in the day, Nathan Lyon bagging 4-60 and Mitchell Starc 3-49.

But should the home skipper have inserted England again? Athers looks at the reasons why he did not and Joe Root's seam attacking getting the pink ball "snaking around" late in the day.

England's batting was not so hot, though, says Michael, who also reflects on some terrific caught-and-bowled dismissals as the tourist were left trailing by 215 on first innings in the inaugural Ashes day-nighter.
