England should not be disheartened after day one of the Boxing Day Test, says Michael Atherton, even though Steve Smith looks in "ominous" form.
Smith built on the fine work of David Warner - who smashed 103 from 151 balls at the MCG after being caught off a Tom Curran no-ball on 99 - by ending unbeaten on 65 in Australia's 244-3.
The Australia captain has not been dismissed in a Test in Melbourne since 2014, scoring 134 not out and 70 not out against Windies and an unbeaten 165 against Pakistan in that time…
