County Championship Division One: Joe Root stars for Yorkshire in innings win over Surrey

Defending champions Yorkshire secured their first win of the season as they beat Surrey by an innings and 20 runs in the Specsavers County Championship Division One.
The hosts declared ahead of the start of play at Headingley and boosted their chances of snatching a victory on the final day with the early wickets of both Surrey openers.
That brought Kumar Sangakkara and Steven Davies together and as both men passed 50, Surrey seemed well placed to hold out for a draw.
However, as he has so often done for England albeit usually with bat rather than ball, Joe Root (2-23) turned the game in his side's favour; the part-time off-spinner removing first Sangakkara (61) and then Davies (52) with Jack Brooks (3-65) getting rid of Jason Roy in between.
Yorkshire moved a step closer to the win as Brooks trapped James Burke lbw to leave Surrey 152-6. Tom Curran and Ben Foakes put on 42 for the seventh wicket but, when Steven Patterson (3-15) broke that partnership, Surrey collapsed to 207 all out to hand Jason Gillespie's men the win.
Simon Kerrigan took 5-59 as Lancashire wrapped up victory over Hampshire by an innings and 94 runs at Old Trafford.
Rain on day three had delayed the progress of Ashley Giles' side, but play was able to start on time on the final day and Lancashire made a key early breakthrough, James Anderson (3-29) having James Vince caught for 47.
Will Smith and Liam Dawson (18) then frustrated the hosts before the latter fell to Kerrigan shortly before lunch. Kyle Jarvis then removed Smith after the interval and after a short period of resistance, led by Adam Wheater (47), Lancashire got stuck into the tail.
Kerrigan took four of the remaining five wickets, including the final wicket of Mason Crane to wrap up a 23-point win.
Middlesex and Nottinghamshire's game at Lord's ended in a draw with no play possible on the final two days due to rain.
Notts had made 354 in their first innings, Samit Patel top-scoring with 86 and Toby Roland-Jones taking 5-61 for Middlesex, who in reply reached 203-3 before the weather intervened with Sam Robson unbeaten on 114.
It was the same story at Edgbaston, days three and four falling victim to the weather with Warwickshire and Somerset forced to share the spoils.
The game had moved along at some pace prior to the rain, however, with Warwickshire 4-0 in the fourth innings of the match and needing a further 318 for victory.
A Tom Abell century had helped Somerset reach 295 in their first innings before bowling the hosts out for just 152, Jamie Overton taking 3-24. The bowlers remained on top in Somerset's second innings, the visitors dismissed for 178.
