Former England batsman James Taylor has undergone surgery to have a defibrillator fitted as his treatment for a heart condition continues.

Taylor stunned the cricket world in April when he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after being diagnosed with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC).

The condition means vigorous exercise is no longer safe and, after wearing a 'life vest' as he described it, Taylor has now been operated on to have an internal defibrillator fitted.

The 26-year-old, whose career finished with Nottinghamshire, posted a picture of himself in hospital on Wednesday to his Twitter followers.
