India left New Zealand reeling on an weather-affected second day of the second Test as Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed a five-for to have the visitors teetering on 127-7 at Kolkata.

Having reduced India to 316 a little before lunch, New Zealand then lost two quick wickets before the interval and another two not long after the break before rain intervened.

Despite a two-and-a-half hour delay, the Indian bowlers didn't relent in their pursuit of wickets, though, dismissing a further three New Zealand batsmen before bad light caused play to end early, with only 52.5 overs possible in the day.

Tom Latham (1) fell first for New Zealand, trapped lbw to Mohammed Shami bowling around the wicket and duping the opener with a delivery that swung in. Martin Guptill's torrid form continued as he departed next, bowled via his elbow for 13.

Henry Nichollas (1) then saw his bails fly 10 balls into the afternoon session when he inside-edged Kumar onto his stumps, prior to a short fightback from stand-in captain Ross Taylor and Luke Ronchi, who put on 62 runs for the fourth wicket, until Ravi Jadeja accounted for Ronchi (35) lbw.

Kumar produced a three-wicket burst when play recommenced following two downpours that saw tea taken early, Taylor (36) his third scalp of the day, edging him to Murali Vijay in the slips. Mitchell Santner (11) and Matt Henry (0) became his fourth and fifth victims, out lbw and bowled respectively to consecutive balls, to leave New Zealand 188 runs behind with only three first innings wickets left.

Earlier, Neil Wagner removed Jadeja following some short-pitched bowling. Despite two men in close and another deep behind square, the batsman couldn't deal with a bouncer and top-edged Wagner to Henry at long leg.

Santner then had Bhuvenesawr trapped in front, before the innings came to a close as Henry took his second catch of the day, running around and diving full length to hold on to Shami.
