Mike Atherton hopes India’s decision to trial DRS in next month's Test series against England will lead to uniform playing conditions across international cricket

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has approved the use of DRS for the upcoming Test series against England.

Indian cricket chiefs have resisted the use of HawkEye technology, which was officially introduced to Test matches in November 2009.

But the system will be in place on a trial basis when the first in a five-match Test series begins in Rajkot on November 9.

"We are happy to note that HawkEye has institutionalised all the recommendations made by BCCI," the organisation's president Anurag Thakur said.

"We confirm that this improved version of DRS will be used on a trial basis during the forthcoming series against England and based on the performance of the system and the feedback that we will receive, further continuation in forthcoming series will be decided.
