The day began with England resuming on 228-8 in their second innings but they were only able to add 12 runs to that total before they were bowled out.

Stuart Broad (10) was the first to go, run out by a distance going for a quick single that was never on, before Gareth Batty (3) was trapped lbw by Taijul Islam.

Imrul Kayes (43) set the tone as Bangladesh made a positive start before Moeen Ali eventually got the breakthrough, having Tamim Iqbal (9) caught at short leg.

Bangladesh went past 100 still only two wickets down but two quick wickets from Batty (2-42) put England back in the ascendancy, first Monimul Haque (27) and then Mahmudullah (17) both being trapped lbw.

Moeen (2-60) returned to the attack and had the dangerous Shakib Al Hasan (24) caught behind just as he was beginning to look set.

The key knock, though, came from debutant Sabbir Rahman who struck his maiden Test fifty to keep Bangladesh in the hunt despite a fine spell from Stuart Broad (2-26).
