India v England: Ravi Ashwin takes six-for to spin hosts to series win
Monday 12 December 2016 13:43, UK
Ravichandran Ashwin took England's final four wickets to fall on day five as India won the fourth Test in Mumbai by an innings and 36 runs to clinch a series victory.
India needed only eight overs to skittle England for 195 in their second innings on the final day, with Ashwin (6-55) claiming a second six-for in the Test.
Jonny Bairstow (51) - who had brought up his half century late on the fourth day - was the first to fall, lbw to Ashwin's carrom ball before the offspinner then cleaned up the tail.
India hold an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series with one Test to play - in Chennai on Friday, live on Sky Sports.
England resumed their second innings on 182-6 on the final morning, trailing by 49 runs but still harbouring hopes of earning a lead and forcing an unlikely victory to keep the series alive.
Those hopes were swiftly dashed when set batsman, Bairstow, fell to Ashwin, playing for turn and getting trapped on the back foot in front of his off-stump - his dismissal confirmed on review.
England then lost their final three wickets in each of Ashwin's next overs - the offspinner first bowling Chris Woakes through the gate for a duck.
Adil Rashid (2) was the next to go, holing out to deep midwicket, before James Anderson picked out mid-on to end the innings and earn India an emphatic win - Jos Buttler (6no) stranded at the other end.
