Rising Pune Supergiants are likely to be without Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for the entirety of the Indian Premier League.

Ashwin could be sidelined for up to eight weeks after scans in the wake of his country's four-Test series against Australia revealed that he is suffering from a sports hernia.

The 30-year-old's India team-mate KL Rahul is also set to miss the tournament due to a shoulder injury which requires an operation.

Ashwin's absence is a further setback for tournament organisers, already aware that India's Test skipper Virat Kohli is ruled out of Royal Challengers Bangalore's opening games due to a shoulder injury he sustained in the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Kings XI Punjab are likely to be without opener Murali Vijay, who is taking time out to recuperate after missing the Bangalore Test against Australia with a shoulder problem.
