England showed a distinct liking for day-night Test cricket as they racked up 348-3 against Windies on day one of the first Test.

Click on the video above to see the best of the action from Edgbaston, featuring centuries from skipper Joe Root (136) and former captain Alastair Cook (153no).

Windies, who lost the toss, struggled to make in-roads for much of the day, keenly feeling the absence of Shannon Gabriel and leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo.

The early signs were promising as Mark Stoneman and Tom Westley fell cheaply but quickly faded as Root and Cook displayed their world-class ability against an attack that lacked penetration.

"It was not very good," said Michael Holding, reflecting on Windies' performance. "The bowlers has been sprayed all over the place and I'm not sure we can call the spinners that."

Root fell shortly before sunset, bowled by Kemar Roach, but Cook batted throughout the entire day and will look to challenge his Test-best 294 on day two.
