Windies' Sunil Ambris suffered a terrible start to his Test career, as he knocked off the bails with his right foot while facing his very first ball in New Zealand.

Windies batsman Sunil Ambris suffered a nightmare start to his Test career - after being dismissed hit wicket first ball against New Zealand!

The 24-year-old appeared to successfully hook Neil Wagner, only to discover that his right heel had clipped the stumps, dislodging the bail.

Ambris' demise was reminiscent of the first World Cup final in 1975, when Windies opener Roy Fredericks hooked Dennis Lillee for six early in the innings but slipped and hit his own wickets with his right boot.

Windies still went on to win that famous match at Lord's but, in Wellington on Friday, they were dismissed for 134, as Wagner claimed a career-best 7-39 - the tourists now face a huge challenge after the Kiwis reached stumps on day one at 85-2.

However, Ambris can take heart from a similar start for Graham Gooch, who made a pair of noughts on his debut but went on to post 20 Test tons in 118 appearances at an average of 42.58.
