Off-spinner delighted to dismiss "good friend" Hussey on 93

Graeme Swann admitted England would take dismissing Australia for 245 "any day" after their bowlers dominated day one of the second Test. Despite losing the toss and being put in the field, the tourists made a sensational start in Adelaide with three wickets in as many overs. James Anderson (4-51) removed Australia captain Ricky Ponting for a first-ball duck, as well as getting rid of his deputy, Michael Clarke (two). The hosts had already lost opener Simon Katich, who was run out without facing a ball, as they failed to make the most of first use of a flat pitch.

Best start

"We'll take that," Swann told Sky Sports. at the end of play. "We got off to the best possible start with two wickets in the first over and then three in the first three overs. "We knew it was going to be hard and that we had to stick in there all day, but we will take 245 all out any day. "To get Ricky Ponting out first ball was good enough but to then get (Michael) Clarke as well, plus the run out, it was a dream start for us." Michael Hussey helped lead something of an Australian fightback, the left-hander following up his first-innings century at Brisbane in the series opener with a fine knock of 93. However, just as he had Brad Haddin (56) looked to be reforming their record stand from the Gabba, Swann dismissed Hussey with a superbly flighted delivery that took the edge and went through to Paul Collingwood at slip. He then got rid of Ryan Harris with the very next delivery as he finished the innings with figures of 2-70 from his 29 overs of work. "It's a flat pitch. It didn't really spin all day," the off-spinner said. "My job was to try and tie an end down and let the seamers operate from the other. "I was pretty happy with the way I did that today and to get two wickets was just the icing on the cake. On getting out his good friend Hussey, Swann added: "He smashed me all over the place last week (at the Gabba). You have these little mini battles within a series and Hussey is definitely going to be one for me. "He's a good mate of mine and I enjoy seeing him do well...but I also enjoy seeing him head back to the pavilion. "He's a very good player of spin and one of the best batsmen in the world. "He's come into a bit of a purple patch at the right time and we've got to now make sure we knock him out of that as soon as possible." England had to face one over before the close; openers Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook surviving it to make sure they would start again on day two. Swann now wants the visitors to make the most of their efforts with the ball by putting a big total on the board in their first innings - setting up a victory push over the closing days. "It's a very good pitch - we will be looking to bat as big as we can in the first innings," he said. "Hopefully that will be enough and we can leave ourselves two or three days to win this Test match."
