England have named their provisional 30-man squad for next summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, with Alastair Cook confirmed as captain for the tournament.
Cook has been under pressure following a poor run of results, but National selector James Whitaker has already made it clear that the opening batsman will remain in charge for the World Cup.
All 15 players currently touring with Peter Moores’ side in Sri Lanka are included, along with pace bowlers Stuart Broad and James Anderson.
The pair are currently recovering from knee injuries that have kept them off the tour of the sub-continent.
Jonathan Trott has not been included, despite regaining his form and improving on a personal level having suffered a stress-related illness that forced him to return early from last winter's Ashes tour.
There is a strong Yorkshire contingent in the squad, with Gary Ballance, Jonny Bairstow, Tim Bresnan, Jack Brooks, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid joining county colleague Joe Root, who is in Sri Lanka.
Surrey batsman Jason Roy, who made his England debut in a Twenty20 match against India at Edgbaston in September, also gets the nod.
The group of 30 players will be whittled down to 15 later in the month, following the tour of Sri Lanka, with a squad for the pre-World Cup Tri-Series against Australia and India due to be announced at the same time.
