Leicestershire have signed Mark Cosgrove on a two-year deal, with the experienced Australian batsman also taking over as club captain.
The 30-year-old left-hander, who has a British passport, will be available in all competitions and will join forces again with Leicestershire’s new head coach Andrew McDonald.
The duo have played together for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield and Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League this season.
McDonald said: “Mark is a player I know well and it is brilliant that we have him on board for the next two seasons.
“Mark is a destructive batsman who can bat anywhere at the top of the order and his aggressive approach will be welcome in all formats.
“Mark has a terrific career record and his leadership abilities will be of great value to Leicestershire County Cricket Club, as well as the runs that he will score.”
Cosgrove will be assisted by batsman Ned Eckersley, who has been named as vice-captain for the 2015 season.
Cosgrove, who has played three one-day internationals for Australia, has previous experience of the county game, having spent three full seasons at Glamorgan in 2006, 2009 and 2010 as well as returning as their T20 overseas player in 2011.
He scored 2,823 runs, including 10 centuries, at an average of 52.27 in his 60 first-class innings for the Welsh county.
He also accumulated 999 runs at 38.42 in List A cricket and 991 T20 runs at 27.91.
