Former Australia bowler Jason Gillespie has held talks with England about becoming Peter Moores’ successor.

The Yorkshire coach has been identified as a candidate to replace Moores, who was sacked after a terrible World Cup campaign and a drawn Test series in the West Indies.

The England and Wales Cricket Board have since brought in Andrew Strauss as director of cricket and he is keen to bring in a permanent coach before the Ashes later this summer.

Paul Farbrace is in interim charge for two Tests against New Zealand but Strauss has no issue turning to an Australian coach against England's great rivals.

Gillespie has labelled Yorkshire his "dream job" but reports surfaced on Wednesday that the ECB had been in touch, and the 40-year-old has now confirmed that.

"I've spoken to Andrew and the ECB about the vacant position," Gillespie told Sky Sports News HQ.

"They it made it very clear they're chatting to a number of people of interest, so they'll let us know what the process is in due course. At this stage there's nothing more to say.

"It was face-to-face (with Strauss), and we had a good chat and we'll see what pans out from there."
