England captain Alastair Cook has won the toss on the first day of the fourth Ashes Test and will bowl first.

England will bowl first in the fourth Investec Ashes Test at Trent Bridge with Mark Wood coming in for injured Jimmy Anderson.

Durham fast bowler Wood has been assured by skipper Alastair Cook he will get the new ball when play gets going in Nottingham as England hunt a victory that will seal the series and a return of the Ashes.

After winning the toss, Cook told Sky Sports Ashes: "The toss is irrelevant, it's who plays best, but Wood is fully fit and he’s raring to go."

Australia are desperate to hit back after their capitulation at Edgbaston and they made one change, with Shaun Marsh replacing younger brother Mitchell.

Marsh will bat at No 4 while skipper Michael Clarke and Adam Voges move down a place in the order.

Victory inside three days in Birmingham left the hosts leading 2-1 and with a fantastic chance to regain the urn 18 months after their whitewash defeat in Australia.

Clarke, who confirmed he would bat at No 5, said: "This is as big as you can get but you can only do your best. It's about getting out here and enjoying the challenge. We've got to bat well."
