Surrey got the better of Middlesex in the NatWest T20 Blast, winning by 29 runs in their London derby clash at The Oval.

Zafar Ansari was named man of the match on Friday for his 34 crucial lower-order runs - helping the hosts recover from 102-6 to post 173-7 from their 20 overs - and 2-18 to help dismiss Middlesex for 144.

Jason Roy smashed 35 from 19 balls - striking three fours and two sixes - to get Surrey off to a great start after Middlesex inserted them having won the toss.

But Ollie Rayner's 3-23 in his first T20 outing of the season brought the visitors back into the contest - Surrey suffering a mini collapse of 3-15 after being well-set at 87-3.

Ansari (34no off 25 balls) led the recovery - assisted by Tom Curran (22no off 10) - before he too had a starring role with the ball in Middlesex's run-chase.

Ansari and Surrey skipper, Gareth Batty, took a combined 4-41 from their six overs of spin, while Ravi Rampaul took 3-21 - including the key wicket of Brendon McCullum (16 off 11), bowled by a slower ball.

James Franklin (39 off 30) had some fun lower down the order, but Middlesex were never really in the contest, and were skittle out with three balls to spare in the final over.

Having been perfectly placed at 99-1 in the 15th over - Ian Bell hitting 67 - they then lost five further wickets in the final few overs, including Bell in the penultimate over, and Chris Woakes off the penultimate ball with a run still needed to win.

Fortunately for the Bears, Ateeq Javid hit four from the final ball to secure a dramatic win.

Another thrilling finale saw Gloucestershire get home by four wickets with one ball to spare against Somerset in Bristol.

Set 159 to win by Somerset - Chris Gayle cracking 40 from 26 balls - Michael Klinger hit 60 off 43 balls to blast the hosts off to a great start.

Though Klinger fell with 30 needed still from the final three overs, which became 14 from the last. But Gloucestershire knocked off the runs thanks to some final-over fireworks from Gareth Roderwick (22no off 16) and Andrew Tye (18no off 11).

Moin Ashraf took 3-16 on his T20 debut for Northamptonshire as they beat Durham by 26 runs.

Josh Cobb

Northants posted  a healthy 161-9 after being put into bat, Josh Cobb striking 68 off 48 balls, although Paul Coughlin (5-42) ended their innings by taking a hat-trick.

But Ashraf helped reduce Durham to 9-4 early on in their chase and they never truly recovered, fumbling their way to 135-8.

Dale Steyn took 4-18 to fire Glamorgan to a 55-run win over Kent in a rain-reduced, 16-over-a-side contest in Cardiff.

David Lloyd had earlier smashed an unbeaten 97 off 49 balls as the hosts posted 175-4, before Steyn ran amok - Kent dismissed for 121.

Sadly, further rain up and down the country, meant there was no play possible in Hampshire's South Group clash with Sussex, nor North Group games between Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire versus Worcestershire.
