International new boys claim Denis Compton Awards
England internationals Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Alex Hales have all won Denis Compton Awards for their 2011 performances. The most promising player at each county, who is under 23 and not contracted to the ECB, receives such an award. Bairstow, Buttler, Stokes, Woakes and Hales, who all made their England debuts during the year, won the Yorkshire, Somerset, Durham, Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire prizes respectively. Simon Kerrigan took the award at county champions Lancashire. Rising batting star Tom Maynard claimed the gong at Clydesdale Bank 40 winners Surrey - and will be looking to follow in father Matthew's footsteps and reach the England team - while bowler Nathan Buck, of Friends Provident t20 champions Leiecestershire, will have similar aims.
