Surrey suffered their first defeat of the Royal London One Day Cup campaign as Somerset beat them by three wickets at Taunton.

Steve Davies scored a fine century for Surrey, but they were unable to defend their total of 267 with a number of Somerset players making vital runs as they edged home with 20 balls to spare to win an exciting Group A contest.

Surrey recovered from an early position of 8-2 thanks to a superb third-wicket stand of 158 between Davies and Rory Burns, who made 76 before becoming one of three victims for Craig Overton.

They made it to 221-3 before Davies' stay came to an end on 111 - he hit 13 fours in a 109-ball stay and added 55 with wicket-keeper Gary Wilson.

But Wilson was the only other Surrey batsman to make more than four, holding things together as Craig and Jamie Overton ran through their tail - Jamie matched his brother with three wickets.

Only James Allenby made more than 50 for Somerset, but most of their batsmen made a contribution with runs coming pretty quickly.

Peter Trego hit five fours and two sixes in a lively 41 but the key stand came between Allenby (53no) and Alex Barrow,  who added 70 for the sixth wicket after they fell to 148-5.

The fireworks came when Craig Overton arrived at the crease, with the exciting all-rounder smashing six fours and a six in a 22-ball innings of 40 that saw Somerset over the line.

Surrey had won five of their first six games in the competition with the other game abandoned because of bad weather.

Chris Rushworth

Holders Durham will find out on Tuesday if they have reached the quarter-finals after beating Derbyshire by 55 runs at the Emirates ICG.

Durham, who have completed their programme, are relying on Yorkshire to beat Northamptonshire at Headingley in the final group game.

Michael Richardson made 56 for Durham but they were left to rely on Gordon Muchall (43) and Chris Rushworth to reach 247-8, Rushworth making a one-day best 38 off 32 balls in a vital 65-run stand.

The seamer failed to get any wickets, but John Hastings more than made up for that with 4-24 off eight tight overs.

Only Wayne Madsen of the Derbyshire batsmen impressed, scoring 77, but their tail produced little resistance and they were dismissed for 192 to end their hopes of qualifying.

Northamptonshire have plenty to play for on Tuesday after they beat previously unbeaten Gloucestershire by four wickets at the County Ground.

The Steelbacks, who have qualified for NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day, chased down 217 for victory with nine overs remaining, boosted by a final bowling display from Olly Stone and Steven Crook.

Stone took two early wickets as Gloucestershire were reduced to 20-3 and Crook mopped up the tail and ended with figures of 4-37. Benny Howell scored 57 for the visitors while Benny Howell top-scored with 80.

But Northants were always on target for victory thanks to an 80-run opening stand between Josh Cobb and T20 quarter-final hero David Willey, who was the first wicket to fall when trapped in front by Howell.

Jack Taylor claimed 3-45 with his off-spin but a brief collapse from 137-2 to 143-5 was overcome by captain Alex Wakely, who remained unbeaten on 31, Crook (19) and Kyle Coetzer, who hit 23 at more than a run a ball.

Worcestershire's Tom Fell

Only pride was at stake at New Road, where Worcestershire condemned Leicestershire to bottom spot in the table with an easy eight-wicket win.

The Foxes made only 172 in their 44.5 overs, and they were thankful to bowlers Clint McKay (42) and Zak Chappell (31) for getting that far.

Alex Hepburn claimed 4-34 on his first-class debut, helping to reduce Leicestershire to 98-8 before McKay and Chappell added 74 for the ninth wicket.

Chappell claimed the wicket of Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell for 22, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore fell for 31, but Tom Fell (60no) and Joe Clarke (51no) saw them to victory with 18 overs to spare.

It was a first win of the season for Worcestershire, while their opponents have just one point from an abandoned match.
