Sussex have signed spinner Danny Briggs from Hampshire.

Briggs has secured a three-year deal after Hampshire agreed to release him with a year still remaining on his contract at the Ageas Bowl.

The 24-year-old left-armer was a key member of Hampshire's white-ball teams, but his opportunities in the County Championship were limited with emerging leg-spinner Mason Crane their preferred option.

Briggs, who has played one ODI and seven T20 internationals for England, said: "I'm really grateful that Hampshire are letting me leave early. I'd like to thank all the players and coaches at the club for all their support over the years.

"I'm looking forward to joining Sussex and working with the players and coaching staff there. I'm excited by the opportunities that lie ahead."

Hampshire's director of cricket Giles Smith said: "Losing Danny is tough, however this is the right decision for him and therefore he goes with our blessing.
