Luke Wells has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Sussex until the end of the 2019 season.

Wells was a star performer this summer, topping the batting charts in Division Two of the County Championship with 1,292 runs at an average of 64.6.

He registered four fifties and as many hundreds, including a career-best 258 against Durham in May while he went to three figures in the final two matches of the season in which he was also standing in as captain.

The 26-year-old said: "I'm extremely pleased to have extended my time with Sussex. Sussex is my home club where I have grown up and I'm very proud to represent my home county.

"We have a lot of work to do over the next two years and beyond to get back to winning ways, but I'm confident we're capable of doing so."`
