Goodwin staying with Sussex

Murray Goodwin has signed a new contract with Sussex which will keep him at the county until the end of the 2012 season.

Murray Goodwin has pledged his future to Sussex by signing a new two-year deal that will keep him at Hove until the end of the 2012 season. The 37-year-old scored over 2,000 runs in all competitions during 2010, helping the county clinch promotion in the LV= County Championship. He also stood in as captain when regular skipper Michael Yardy was away on international duty with England. The former Zimbabwe international helped Sussex clinch their first Championship title in 2003 and is hungry for further trophies.

"I am really pleased to be continuing my cricket here at Sussex and hopefully we can look forward to more success," he said. "It was our main objective to return to Division One of the Championship at the first attempt and we will be looking to challenge on all fronts again next season." Yardy was delighted at the news of Goodwin's new deal, adding: "It is a huge boost for the club for Murray to be signing for two more years. "He is an integral part of our side and his form this summer was excellent," he added. "Hopefully he can continue this as we look to push on next season."
