MCC reduced to 81-8 on day two in Abu Dhabi

Ian Blackwell followed up his first-innings century with a duck as Lancashire fought back on day two of the Champion County match in Abu Dhabi. The MCC XI was reduced to 81-8 at the close, a lead of 148 after the Red Rose had been bowled out for 199 in their first innings. Left-arm spinner Simon Kerrigan took three wickets for 28 to go with his four from the first innings. Tom Smith claimed 2-5, including the wicket of Blackwell, who made an unbeaten 102 on day one, for a six-ball duck. Sajid Mahmood dismissed MCC captain Mark Ramprakash in his two for 19. Earlier, Lancashire went from 38-2 overnight to 199 all out, Glen Chapple top-scoring with an unbeaten 42. Pakistan paceman Rana Naved was the pick of the bowlers with 3-31. Day One Ian Blackwell was the star of the show on day one of the Champion County match between the MCC and Lancashire in Abu Dhabi. Batting at number six, the Durham man scored an unbeaten 103, 70 more than any of his team-mates, in the MCC's 265 all out and then took the wicket of Stephen Moore as Lancashire closed the day on 38-2. The champions had the edge until Blackwell came in, with MCC captain Mark Ramprakash, who had chosen to bat, scoring only seven before he was bowled by Simon Kerrigan, one of four wickets for the left-arm spinner. Kerrigan then snared opener Stephen Peters after he had scored 32, while Moeen Ali (33) and wicketkeeper Niall O'Brien (28) also made useful contributions. But the innings was dominated by Blackwell, who also scored a ton for Durham in the Champion County fixture in 2009, as he smashed 16 boundaries in his 148-ball knock. Glen Chapple and Sajid Mahmood chipped in with two wickets apiece but Lancashire's day was marred by the loss of both openers cheaply, Paul Horton caught behind for nine before Blackwell had Moore lbw for 11 in his first over. Karl Brown and nightwatchman Gary Keedy hung on under the lights to take Lancashire to the close without further loss, still 227 runs in arrears.
