Liam Dawson produced a fine all-round display as Hampshire ended a difficult day with a 25-run win against Glamorgan in the NatWest T20 Blast.

Hours after the county confirmed that batsman Michael Carberry had been diagnosed with cancer, Dawson scored 76 runs with the bat before taking 4-23 with the ball as Glamorgan came up short in their chase.

The win was just Hampshire's second in 11 games in this season's competition and denied the visitors top spot in the South Group.

Dawson arrived at the crease at 18-2, after Tom Alsop and Sean Ervine both fell to Graham Wagg in the third over.

The 26-year-old soon lost Adam Wheater but then combined with Shahid Afridi (25) and Joe Weatherley (43) having survived being dropped by Shaun Tait when on 29.

He added another 47 runs in a 54-ball knock that included two of the game's five sixes as Hampshire posted 167-6.

Glamorgan openers David Lloyd and Mark Wallace put on 51 in the opening seven overs before Dawson bowled the former for 18 with the first delivery of the eighth.

Dawson then had Colin Ingram caught behind three deliveries later, before Aneurin Donald was bowled by Afridi having failed to score and Jacques Rudolph offered a return catch to Brad Taylor first ball.

Dawson added the scalps of Craig Meschede (17) and Wagg (25) as Glamorgan's response fizzled out on 142-7.
