Daryl Mitchell has been named as the permanent Worcestershire captain after signing a new four-year contract with the club. Mitchell stood in as skipper for the last five weeks of the season after Vikram Solanki quit the role following a defeat to Glamorgan. The opening batsman lost only one game during his stint in charge as the Pears secured promotion to Division One of the LV= County Championship. Now he has been appointed on a permanent basis and will stay with the county until the end of the 2014 season. "I am absolutely delighted that Daryl's services of captaincy are secured for next season, and that he has committed his future to the Club with a four-year contract," Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes said. "I am enjoying working with Daryl, and look forward to seeing his progression as captain." Mitchell is a product of the Worcestershire academy and made his debut for the club five years ago. He scored 1,180 first-class runs this summer. He added: "I am very pleased to commit my future to Worcestershire and it is an honour to be made captain."
