Toby Roland-Jones has signed a two-year contract extension with Middlesex.

Roland-Jones, the club's leading wicket-taker this season with 32 scalps already to his name across all formats, will now remain at Lord's until at least the end of the 2019 season.

The 28-year-old paceman has made 73 first-class appearances since making his debut in April 2010, taking 268 wickets at an average of just 25, including 13 five-wicket hauls.

He has also made 52 Class-A appearances, taking 83 wickets at 24, and 25 T20 appearances, taking 30 wickets at just 16.

Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: "I am thrilled that Toby will be a Middlesex player for at least the next four years.

"He is an outstanding cricketer who, in the past two or three years, has become one of the leading domestic players in the country.

"His record is superb and there are very few, if any, better bowlers than him who are yet to play international cricket. As well as being a fine player he is a top bloke. We are lucky to have him."

Middlesex have also revelaed seamer Tom Helm has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with the ankle injury he picked up while fielding in Sunday's Royal London One-Day Cup match against Sussex at Hove.

Scans revealed that the fast bowler had suffered torn ligaments and he underwent an operation on Tuesday evening from which the recovery period is four months.

Fraser said: "This is extremely disappointing news for Tom and everyone at the club. This was a freak injury and Tom is having no luck at all at the moment.

"But anyone who witnessed Tom bowl for the first XI this season will realise he is a special talent and we will continue to support him.

"Young cricketers with his potential come along very rarely and he remains a pivotal figure in Middlesex's future plans."
