Tom Westley scored a magnificent unbeaten double century as County Championship Divison Two leaders Essex moved into a commanding position against Worcestershire on day two at Chelmsford.

Westley ended the day on a career-best 238 not out, while Ravi Bopara just missed out on a century on 99, as Essex reached 512-4 in reply to Worcestershire's first innings total of 230.

England's Test captain Alastair Cook continued his fine form with 66 as Essex moved 282 runs ahead at the close of play.

Elsewhere, title challengers Kent are also well on course for a comfortable victory against Sussex at Hove.

Will Gidman was left stranded one run short of a century as the visitors made 496, in reply to Sussex's below par first innings score of 180.

Kent then took the late wickets of Tom Haines (11) and night-watchman Ajmal Shahzad (3) to leave the hosts struggling on 42-2 at the end of day two - still 274 runs behind.

Rob Keogh finished with incredible figures of nine wickets for 52 runs as Northamptonshire dominated Glamorgan on day two at the County Ground.

Part-time spinner Keogh, who had only taken 36 first-class wickets in his career prior to today's play, ran through Glamorgan to dismiss the visitors for 124, in reply to Northamptonshire's first innings total of 269.

England hopeful Ben Duckett then smashed 185 off 198 balls as the hosts declared on 305-7, with Glamorgan's Owen Morgan (0*) and Jacques Rudolph (0*) successfully seeing off three maidens at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, Phil Mustard scored his first century for almost five years as Gloucestershire moved into a promising position at Derbyshire.

Mustard's unbeaten 107 helped the visitors reach 331 in reply to Derbyshire's first innings total of 242.

The home side then lost Ben Slater (6) and Billy Godleman (5) early in their second innings to end the day struggling on 16-2, still trailing by 73 runs.
