All-rounder Tom Knight has signed a new one-year deal with Derbyshire.
Knight, a former England Under-19 international, played in seven NatWest T20 Blast fixtures for the county this season as well as one outing in the Royal London One-Day Cup match in 2014.
The Derbyshire Academy graduate, a left-arm spinner, hit an explosive 44 from only 18 balls in the Blast clash with Northamptonshire and spent most of the year working on his bowling action away from matches.
The 21-year-old was also a regular for the Second XI, hitting a run-a-ball 125 in the one-day competition against Yorkshire and an unbeaten 99 off just 55 balls in the Twenty20 win over Durham.
The county's elite performance director Graeme Welch said: “Tom is a home-grown player with great potential.
“The lad has had a tough season while evolving his action, which I’m sure he and the Club will reap rewards from in the future.
“We have, meanwhile, seen a huge improvement in his batting with that rapid innings against Northants and in several good knocks for the Second XI.
“Tom’s development will continue over the winter – working closely with Ant Botha and our coaching staff – and I’m sure we’ll see more of him in 2015.”
