New deal for veteran all-rounder at Northants

All-rounder James Middlebrook has signed a new two-year extension with his County Championship side Northamptonshire. The 34-year-old will now remain at the County Ground for the 2012 and 2013 seasons after finishing 2011 with 43 wickets at an average of 21.9, as well as scoring 644 runs at an average of 43, including three centuries in the LV= County Championship. A popular figure at Northants, Middlebrook won the Supporters Club Player of the Year and also received his County Cap back in August. "I really enjoyed this past year, with both bat and ball," said Middlebrook. "Thanks to my form, I have been able to secure this contract extension and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to extend my stay with Northants." "We have a good mix of experience and youth here at the County Ground, and it's nice to see a few younger players like Jack Brooks and Alex Wakely get international recognition. Hopefully we can continue to play exciting cricket and win some trophies." Head coach David Capel added: "It is good news for Northants that James has committed his future to the club. James performed very well for us last season and I'm sure he will continue to play an important role in helping the club achieve its ambitions."
