Sky Cricket Podcast: England recover on day one at Lord's

Cricket - SkySports Podcast

After a rocky start, England recovered to close day one of the opening Test against New Zealand at Lord's on 354-7.

In the latest edition of the Sky Cricket Podcast, Sir Ian Botham delivers his verdict on the opening skirmishes and explains why the 90 overs represented one of the best day’s cricket he’s seen at this time of year.

England’s legendary all-rounder also shares his thoughts on the future of Ben Stokes (92), insisting it’s time the selectors make him a permanent fixture at number six in the order, and says that Joe Root (98) is as good as anyone in world cricket on current form.

Root – named England’s Cricketer of the Year earlier this week – joined Ian Ward and Michael Atherton at the Sky Cart at the close of play to reflect on a day on which he just missed out on another Test century.

Listen to that interview – and hear from New Zealand’s Matt Henry, who returned impressive figures on his Test debut.
