Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against Pakistan with the calf injury suffered in the second Test at Old Trafford.

The ECB confirmed on Wednesday morning that Stokes, who was already ruled out of the third Test at Edgbaston, will not recover in time for next week's final match of four at The Kia Oval.

The influential all-rounder will therefore fail to complete any of England's seven Tests this summer, having required knee surgery after limping out of action against Sri Lanka at Headingley in May.

It is still hoped he may return for England's limited-overs series against Pakistan, which begins at the end of this month.

An ECB statement read: "Stokes will continue his rehabilitation with the England medical team during the Edgbaston Test this week.
